XaaS
Stands for "Everything as a Service." XaaS is an extension of SaaS (software as a service) with a broader scope that covers a range of IT services. All XaaS offerings have two defining criteria: They are cloud-based and require a monthly or annual subscription.
Examples of XaaS services include:
- Software
- File storage
- Online backup
- Data security
- Data analytics
- Collaboration tools
- Streaming services
Some XaaS tools have a web interface, some have desktop and mobile apps, and others provide both. Apple iCloud, for example, allows access to the bundled services through the web, macOS, and iOS apps.
XaaS offerings span consumer and enterprise markets. Services like Netflix and Spotify are primarily geared towards consumers, while SAP and Salesforce tools are aimed at businesses. Some services, such as Microsoft 365 and Google Docs, are available to both.
